What is a float switch?
A float switch is a, on the water surface, floating body, for the automatic control of levels. Float switches can be made of different materials. The switches we offer here are made of plastic and rubber. These materials are lightweight and resistant to many external influences. Float switches automatically measure the level and give an impulse in time to turn off or turn on electrical devices. The operation is simple: inside the float is a ball that rolls back and forth, activating a microswitch depending on its position. In addition to being mounted directly on the pump, float switches are often used in pools or tanks to switch the pump outside the tank. The switches here are also sometimes referred to as level switches.
Ensure correct mounting
In order for the float switches to function optimally and without interference, you should make sure that they are mounted correctly. The float switches are attached to a cable. Care should be taken not to crush the cable or damage the insulation. The float switch must be able to move freely. The free cable length can be used to set the switching range between the ON and OFF switching points. The free length should be at least 15 cm, otherwise the cable cannot move freely and thus cannot be switched reliably. In addition, a cable break is unavoidable. If the free length is too long, the float switch will float flat on the water. This can cause the ball to be in an undefined position and not switch.
Why use float weights?
If you cannot attach the float switch cable, you can use float weights to attach the cable. The float weight must be heavy enough not to float with the float body due to buoyancy. Float weights are pulled over the cable before mounting and secured with compression fittings.
Degree of protection IP68
The float switches must of course be particularly well protected so that they are durable and safe. For this reason, the float switches must have a high degree of protection. The degree of protection is determined by various tests and describes the behavior of the float switches in relation to the penetration of dust and water. With the IP68 you get a float switch that is absolutely dustproof and permanently waterproof when submerged. Use the high-quality float switches for monitoring your levels.
